BubbleBum rise to the Ryanair Challenge!
Dublin, 9th December 2011: Following Ryanair’s announcement of plans to increase fees for checked in baggage on the airline, BubbleBum, the award winning manufacturer of an inflatable car booster seat, have today hit out at the airline for threatening children’s safety on roads. The increased charges means that parents could now pay up to fifty euro to carry a car seat on the airline.
A spokesperson for BubbleBum said “While our booster seat can solve the problem for booster age children, these hikes in cost are a major problem for parents with children under the age of four. 50% of the car seats booked through car rental firms are unavailable at the point of pick while 50% of those that are available are unsuitable. This leaves a staggering 75% of children travelling without the correct restraint. Children are at least 59% safer when using the correct restraint. This is a moral issue which should be brought to the attention of Ryanair who are creating the potential for significantly reducing the safety of children on the roads while travelling here and abroad.”
In retaliation against the inflated charges, BubbleBum have signed a last minute deal with Heatons to help parents avoid these extortionate costs. This fully certified seat, weighing in at little over 1lb, can be easily inflated for use and deflated for storage in hand baggage.

Hi Buddies,
Please see recent review from ‘Belly Beyond’ In New Zealand; many thanks Mr and Mrs Belly!!!
Product Test – Waiheke Trip with the BubbleBum
A trip to Waiheke used to mean we carried at least one large car seat with us on the passenger ferry – the right thing to do to keep our kids safe of course, but what a HASSLE!!!
So it was no struggle for me to instantly see the benefits of the Bubble Bum Booster Seat. It packs down to absolutely tiny so it fitted into my backpack and once at Matiaia it simply took a few puffs of air to blow it up and away we went!
Miss 6 felt ever so special being in a ‘big seat’ and I was relaxed in the knowledge that she was in a safety approved seat, with the seat belt straps exactly where they should be in the case of a crash.
It’s also handy to have in Mr Belly Beyond’s car for the time he picks her up from school.
Here’s the stuff you probably want to know:
Requirements for use: What age should my child be to use a BubbleBum?
A child should meet ALL of the following requirements in order to use ANY booster seat:
It is recommended that you keep your child in the lowest Group car seat until the maximum weight allowance for that restraint before moving up to the next Group.

Hi BubbleBum Buddies,
Please find to follow recent review of the BubbleBum and many thanks to welshmumof3 at www.mumofthreeboys.com
The following week I had the opportunity to try the BubbleBum out in my car and this time Trystan used it. I found it a bit fiddly to put the seat belt through the seat belt guides but once I had done this twice I found it easy. Trystan enjoyed sitting in the BubbleBum as well. That evening I decided to deflate the BubbleBum to see how easy it was. Once I had opened the valve on the BubbleBum I had to apply a little bit of pressure and roll the BubbleBum up to make sure it was deflated fully and then closed the valve.
A couple of days later there was another opportunity to use the BubbleBum so I inflated the BubbleBum within a minute and it was ready to go. I think we must have used the BubbleBum booster seat at least once a week since we received it and we have all been extremely pleased with how easy it is to inflate, use and deflate again. We have used the BubbleBum booster seat in several makes and model of cars and have had no problem’s fitting it in any of them. I have taken it with me under the pushchair and it has come in handy when we have given lifts to friends children. I would highly recommend the BubbleBum Booster seat to anyone who has children aged between 4 years plus as a spare seat for grandparents car’s or if like us children travel in both parent’s cars. The BubbleBum is lightweight, easy to store and easy to inflate and deflate.
The BubbleBum booster seat can be bought directly from BubbleBum for £29.99 with free postage to the UK and Ireland which I think is fantastic value for money given that it ensures your child’s safety when traveling in a car.

As part three of my travel with kids feature, here are two more fantastic products that are designed to make the whole ordeal experience a little easier.
Firstly, the Bubblebum car seat. This is another product that is definitely going to be taking up its rightful place in my suitcase. We’ve booked car seats with the hire car but this is still one prouct that I know will come in very handy. The Bubblebum compresses down into a small pouch and can be carried with you wherever you go. When you need to use it, you simply blow it up! Genious. It complies with all the safety regulations so it perfectly fine to use for older children who just need a booster seat. I won’t be using it for the toddler, but the big one has already put it to good use when she’s been picked up from school by other parents etc. The plan is to take it with us, stash is under the buggy and if she wants to ride home at a different time with my parents or one of my sisters, there is no need for us all to trek back to our car to change car seats. She just inflates her Bubblebum (!) and she’s away. Simple. As always, I shall be posting a follow up review to the Bubblebum car seat once we return.
The second travel essential we have been lucky enough to review is for the big one again, although I have a feeling I may be pinching it at some point. The Sound Asleep speaker pillow is a great idea- it shapes around your shoulders and has little speakers built in close to the ears. This means the big one can listen to books on CD or any of her favourite music during the flight or car journeys. We’ve yet to try this out on a journey but the big one has tried the cushion at home and it looks like a good fit. Its not suitable for kids under 5 so, again, the toddler won’t be using this. My only reservation is the volume of the speakers and whether or not it will disturb fellow passengers. We shall see. On the plus side, its way more comfortable than headphones so that could be a major plus. Once again, I shall be posting a follow up review.

BubbleBum Inflatable Booster Seat
This is one of my newest favorites – it’s an inflatable booster seat that is still completely compliant with all safety standards. It’s small and lightweight, thus perfect for traveling, or as a spare booster seat.

As a mum of two children living in Spain, and frequently flying back to the UK, I was delighted when Cheeky Rascals asked us to review the BubbleBum booster seat. We have said adios to our two car seats many times at the large luggage desk at the airport, and I cannot complain as they have so far always found their way back to us. However, I do anticipate the day when we go our separate ways, never to be reunited again. And, I’ve never been tempted to hire booster seats along with the car hire as you cannot guarantee quality or availability.
And so, the idea of an inflatable booster seat that we can pack up securely in our bags is ideal, but does the BubbleBum work? Here’s our BubbleBum review….
I know the blurb said it was less than a half a kilo, but to be honest, I was never good at judging weights. But once I had the booster seat in my hands, I was really surprised at just how light it was. I imagined that the tough fabric would be heavy, but my three year old could easily add the BubbleBum to her aeroplane hand luggage and carry it herself.
It took me a few seconds to work out how to stop the air coming out of the valve, but only because I hadn’t seen one like it before. The valve has a twist mechanism which you can lock while still blowing (try it and then you’ll understand what I mean!). Some Amazon customers commented that it was difficult to put back into the orginal bag, but you just have to roll it to deflate, and close the valve to stop it reinflating itself.
OK, so I can’t test this to the extent of a reconstructed car accident of course and to be honest I had my doubts, so I took a look at what BubbleBum had to say about car safety and the use of child booster seats. The BubbleBum booster is ECE regulation R44/04 approved (click on the link for more technical information on the regulation). BubbleBum explain that a child booster seat is designed so that basically, the 3 point seat belt is in the correct position for the child. One of the aspects of the 3 point belt is in protecting the abdominal area, and as such, the seat belt should sit on the child’s lap and not across their belly. On both my 7 and almost 4 year old, the BubbleBum did indeed keep the seat belt on the lap. I have read some reviews that say the seat belt cuts across the neck area, but I don’t see that there is any difference between the Bubblebum and other boosters without seatbelt adjusters in this respect. If this is the case with your child, you’ll need a seperate seat adjuster anyway. In other safety aspects, I obviously can’t add any more, and have to rely on the fact that it complies with the necessary regulation.

Both my children agreed that the BubbleBum booster was much more comfortable than the hard rigid boosters. I had thought they might wriggle around on it too much, but if anything, it slips less than the plastic seats. As extra security, I would like to see the bottom of the seat made of rubber or with rubber patches to prevent any slippage at all. Both my girls loved the purple design, but perhaps a boy might prefer a different colour?
My oldest daughter is often asked back to friends houses after school and usually we have to coordinate a meet up to handover booster seats, but she can easily fit the BubbleBum into her school bag. Perfect. Alternatively we can keep it in the car in case we unexpectedly have extra children in the car, which has been known from time to time.
And, when we have visitors and have to have 3 in the back of the car, it’s not always comfortable to sit inbetween two booster seats. However, the BubbleBums, when inflated, take up less room than the plastic boosters and are a lot comfier to sit against. It’s an extra bonus for us.
All in all, we think the BubbleBum is an excellent solution for taking on holiday and, far from being flung in the cupboard with the bucket and spade until next year’s holiday, we’ll be using it many many times over.
